Caroline Bird’s latest play, "RED ELLEN" about labour politician Ellen Wilkinson, received critical acclaim (**** The Times, The Stage, The Guardian) and was produced by Northern Stage, Nottingham Playhouse and Royal Lyceum Theatre in Spring 2022. Her re-twisted telling of “THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ" (Northern Stage, 2015) received a four-star review in The Times. Her original play "CHAMBER PIECE" (Lyric Hammersmith, 2013), was performed as part of their Secret Theatre Season, and her radical version of "THE TROJAN WOMEN" (Gate Theatre, 2012) enjoyed a seven-week run, to wide critical acclaim. Caroline was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize in 2014 and was recognized as a promising new playwright at the Off-West-End Awards in 2023. In 2003, at the age of 16, she was the youngest ever member of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, working under the guidance of Simon Stephens.
